Services

Engine Repair Services in Ventura

We offer a full range of engine repair services for all makes and models in Ventura. Our certified techs use up-to-date diagnostic equipment to find and fix engine problems quickly.

Check Engine Light Diagnostic

If your check engine light comes on, your car’s trying to tell you something. We use advanced diagnostic tools to pull trouble codes from your car’s computer and figure out what’s up.

We don’t just read codes—we dig deeper to find the real issue. Some shops just swap out parts, but we take the time to diagnose what’s actually wrong before we suggest repairs.

Engine Replacement

Sometimes, engines just reach the end of the road, and replacement makes the most sense. We handle complete engine replacements and offer remanufactured, used, or new engines—whatever fits your needs and budget.

Here’s what our engine replacement process looks like:

  1. We assess your current engine thoroughly
  2. Explain your options in detail
  3. Remove the old engine carefully
  4. Install the new or rebuilt engine
  5. Test everything before handing back your keys

We work on everything from basic four-cylinders to complicated V8s. Every replacement comes with a warranty for your peace of mind. Most engine replacements take about 3-5 days.

Front Crankshaft Oil Seal

The front crankshaft oil seal keeps oil from leaking at the front of your engine, right where the crankshaft meets the timing belt or chain. If this seal fails, you’ll probably spot oil puddles under the front of your car.

Our techs are pros at replacing these seals. The job usually means removing a bunch of parts—timing belt, pulleys, and more—to get to the seal.

While we’re in there, we check the crankshaft surface for damage. That way, the new seal actually works and you don’t end up with another leak down the road.

Head Gasket Replacement

A blown head gasket is no joke. This part seals the cylinder head to the engine block, keeping coolant and oil where they belong.

We handle head gasket replacements with care. That means using the right torque specs and prepping the surfaces properly. The job involves pulling the cylinder head, cleaning everything up, and putting it back together with a new gasket.

We also check for warped heads or any damage from overheating, just to be thorough.

Oil Leak Repair

We track down and fix oil leaks from anywhere—valve covers, oil pans, timing covers, and seals.

We start with a thorough inspection—sometimes using dyes and UV lights to find sneaky leaks. Then we come up with a plan to fix what’s actually causing the problem.

It’s important to fix oil leaks fast. You’ll keep proper oil pressure, avoid environmental mess, and steer clear of fire hazards from oil dripping on hot engine parts.

Oil Pan Replacement

Your oil pan holds engine oil and protects the bottom of your engine. Replacing the oil pan means:

  • Lifting and supporting your car safely
  • Draining the oil
  • Removing the damaged pan
  • Cleaning the surfaces
  • Installing the new pan and gasket
  • Refilling with fresh oil

We use quality parts that fit your vehicle. Our techs make sure to torque everything right, so you don’t end up with leaks or stripped threads.

Rear Main Seal

The rear main seal keeps oil from leaking where the engine meets the transmission. When this seal goes bad, you can get serious oil leaks—and if you drive a manual, you might notice clutch issues too.

Replacing this seal is a big job—it usually means pulling the transmission. Our crew at DMC Automotive Repair has the tools and know-how for this.

We always check the crankshaft surface for wear while we’re in there. If it’s damaged, even a new seal won’t fix the leak.

Timing Belt Replacement

Your timing belt keeps your engine’s valves and pistons moving in sync. If it breaks, especially in interference engines, you could be looking at major damage.

Most car makers say to swap out the timing belt every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. When we do this service, we usually replace:

  • The timing belt itself
  • Water pump
  • Tensioners and idler pulleys
  • Seals and gaskets

Replacing the timing belt on time is way cheaper than fixing engine damage from a broken belt. We follow the manufacturer’s specs to get the tension and timing right.

Got an engine check light on my 2016 Ford Edge Titanium with a 4-cylinder Eco-boost 2.0 engine and only 100,600 miles. Had no idea the issue but figured it was something minor. How bad could it be? Took it to my mechanic who diagnosed it quickly while I waited and said coolant leaked into cylinder 1, cracked the block, that the engine must be replaced and that it will cost $10k!  I was shocked. I kept it garaged, well-maintained and changed the oil at recommended intervals using only premium synthetic oil. My mechanic doesn’t replace engines so I needed a second opinion.

I initially thought it was a transmission check light and was hoping my mechanic was wrong somehow. Maybe a little transmission fluid will do the trick? After all, denial is underrated! So I searched local transmission shop reviews and came across DMC Auto Transmissions in Ventura with hundreds of 5-star ratings. I reached out and Lori responded, warm and welcoming and got me in quickly. They checked it out but I was not so lucky. I didn’t convey what my mechanic had found but they too found the same issue and sent me evidence forming the same conclusion as my mechanic. They said the high heat produced by the turbo warped the aluminum block and head surfaces causing coolant to leak into cylinder 1 just as my mechanic stated.

So my choices were do nothing and sell the SUV "as is" for a significant loss and buy another car (replacement SUV’s run $40-50k), replace the ruined engine with similar OED engine with same issue for $8k and hope it lasts, or pay $10k for Ford's redesigned engine capable of handling high turbo heat that comes with a 3-year unlimited mile warranty- engine replacement is covered, labor is not.

I decided the latter was the best option. As it turns out I was lucky after all because DMC Auto Transmissions also performed engine replacements and I had confidence going in with them from the start. So I put down the deposit and Lori and team got to work placing the order for the new engine. At this point I had already received great communications from DMC via text and they were very responsive to calls as well. David shuttled me home.

Within a few days DMC Auto Transmissions informed me that the engine is on it’s way and scheduled me in at 8a the following Monday. I dropped off the vehicle on time and was informed if all goes well I’d have my SUV back with the new engine by Thursday or Friday of that week. It was ready late Thursday afternoon so I arranged to pick it up on Friday morning, which I did. It drove like a dream with only one issue which they quickly fixed- a clip holding a vacuum tube to the intake manifold came loose causing an air leak and had to be replaced. Nancy facilitated the process and Luis the master tech resolved the issue and they delivered my car to my house afterwards.

All were friendly and professional and by this point I absolutely knew I will be taking my vehicles to DMV Auto Transmissions in the future and I recommend you do too!

And yes, writing to Ford Corporate and keeping receipts in hope I will be reimbursed for at least some of the cost.
